With the return of Georges St. Pierre, who will be fighting Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title, the rest of the division is backlogged with contenders. The #1 contender in the division, who was expected to face Michael Bisping next is Yoel Romero. Romero, who is riding a 8 fight winning streak inside the UFC, was a guest on Ariel Helwani’s “MMA Hour” on Monday. Romero stated that he wants to fight former long time UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva next.
“A fight with Anderson Silva would be great,” stated Romero. “It would be great for me, it would b great for the fans, and a fight for an interim title would be really good in general. I have already fought everyone else. I’ve alredy fought and beat everyone else. The only person that is among those great stars is Anderson. We both have to play with the same plans of St. Pierre. At this moment, this is almost like a chess match”.
Romero went on to say, “If you look the top-five rankings, everyone is busy and the only ones that are not booked are Anderson and I. He already beat everyone, and if you look at the list he’s the only big star that’s in title contention and that I haven’t fought.”
Anderson Silva has not yet commented on the fight, but recently called for fights with Michael Biping and Nick Diaz on his Instagram account.
