Paige VanZant fight pulled from UFC 216 due to injury
Women’s flyweight fight between Paige VanZant and Jessica Eye has been pulled from UFC 216 card. MMA Fighting reported that VanZant suffered an injury and will not be able to fight in next weeks UFC 216 event. It is reported that VanZant suffered an intervertebral disc injury while training for her upcoming fight. VanZant won’t need to undergo any surgery, but doctors have advised her not to fight next week or sometime to let the injury heal.
Both VanZant and Eye have yet to fight in 2017. VanZant has not fought since December of last year, while Eye has not fought since September of 2016. Both fighters are coming off a loss and looking to reestablish themselves in the division. This is the second time this year that a fight had been cancelled on Jessica Eye. Eye’s last schedule fight in July for UFC 213 was cancelled the day of the fight due to her opponent Aspen Ladd falling ill,
UFC 216 is scheduled to take place on October 7th in Las Vegas Nevada. UFC 216 is headlined with Tony Ferguson vs Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight title. Card also features co-main event Demetrious Johnson vs Ray Borg for the flyweight championship.
