Valentina Shevchenko to take on Priscila Cachoeira

UFC confirmed on Tuesday that Valentina Shevchenko will drop down to the women’s new flyweight division. Her opponent will be undefeated Brazilian, Priscila Cachoeira. The fight will take place at UFC Belem on February 3rd, 2018.

The move for Shevchenko from bantamweight to flyweight is not all that surprising. Shevchenko lost to Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title back in September. This marked the second time that Shevchenko had lost Nunes. The other time came back in March of 2016 at UFC 196. With two losses to the current champion, it was very unlikely that Shevchenko would get a third shot. So many expected her to make the move to the new women’s flyweight division.

Cachoeira will be a big crowd favorite for this fight.  The Brazilian native will get her first big fight in front of her home crowd. Cachoeira was set to take on Lauren Murphy in The Ultimate Fighter finale, but issues with her visa made her miss the fight.
