UFC OKC Recap: Lee Wins By Submission with Controversy.

A day after Bellator was on Pay Per View in New York City, the UFC put on a free show in Oklahoma City.

Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee settled their grudge match on Sunday. Well, sorta. Chiesa came out fast dropping Lee with a left hand. Lee was able to reverse position by slamming Chiesa. Chiesa attempted to a triangle choke but gave up his back to Lee. After a few moments of riding Chiesa out and landing some heavy ground and pound, he was able to lock in a rear naked choke. Referee Mario Yamasaki thought Chiesa tapped out, and stopped the fight. Chiesa protested the contest, but Lee was rewarded the victor. Kevin Lee wins by 1st round submission (Rear Naked Choke).

Chiesa stated that he would like to rematch Lee in Lee’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

If former welterweight champion, Johny Hendricks had a bad Saturday, his Sunday was even worst. Hendricks missed weight on Saturday and then was knocked out on Sunday. He squared off against Tim Boetsch, who seemed faster in stronger than Hendricks. In the second round, Boetsch landed a high kick on Hendricks that rocked the former champ. He followed it up with a a burrage of uppercuts putting Hendricks out. Tim Boetsch wins by 2nd round TKO

Felice Herrig put on another great performance, this time against Justine Kish. Herrig showed that she was the much better grappler. She was able to takedown and get Kish’s back several times. The standup was much closer but Herrig continuously landed a left hook. Kish showed incredible heart in the 3rd round by being able to escape a very deep rear-naked choke. Felice Herrig beats Justine Kish by unanimous decision

Dominick Reyes made his debut with a bang. In just 29 seconds he was able to knockout Joaquim Christensen. He handed a hard left hand that strumbled Christensen and then put him out with a hard left hand and followed up with shots to the down Christensen. Dominick Reyes beats Joaquim Christensen by 1st round TKO.  

Tim Means and Alex Garcia met in a welterweight contest. Garcia landed some heavy shots in the first round but Means was able to find his range and timing to outpoint Garcia. Tim Means wins beats Alex Garcia by unanimous decision.

Former UFC Lightweight and welterweight champion, BJ Penn attempted to pick up his first win since November of 2010. Penn almost pulled off the upset when he dropped his opponent Dennis Siver with an uppercut in the second round. However, it was Siver that got the better of the exchanges in the first and third round. Penn looked very tired in the third round and mostly attempted to avoid Siver’s strikes for the round, while not attempting much offense of his self. Dennis Siver beats BJ Penn by majority decision.
