UFC St. Louis Recap: Stephens KOs Choi

Doo Ho Choi vs Jeremy Stephens

The main event features a featherweight matchup between Doo Ho Choi and Jeremy Stephens.  Both Choi and Stephens are looking for another win to move up the rankings and try to position themselves for a possible title fight down the road. Choi makes his return to the octagon after not fighting since December 2016 against Cub Swanson. A fight that many saw as the fight of the year. A fight that Choi lost by Unanimous Decision. Choi will be looking to reestablish his name in the featherweight division. On the other side, we have the veteran, Stephens. Stephens scored a big win back in September at UFC 215 when he scored a decision win over former title contender Gilbert Melendez. If either fighter hopes to someday have a shot at the title, they need this win on their resume.

Round 1:

Both fighters come out a little cautious. Both Choi and Stephens throwing leg kicks and each landing one.  Stephens pressing forward slightly a little more to start the round.  Stephens lands a couple punches but Choi returns couple legs kicks.  Choi gets Stephens back to the cage, but Stephens lands an elbow to the head of Choi. Choi comes right back and lands a 1-2 combo. Both fighters exchange a couple punches towards the end of round 1. Choi’s leg kicks is enough to give him the slight edge in round 1.

The MMATakeover scored the round 10-9 for Doo Ho Choi

Round 2:

Start of round 2 both fighters come out swinging. Choi lands a nice leg kick to the face of Stephens, but not enough to knock him down.  Stephens shortly after lands a knee to the midsection of Choi. Both fighters are throwing some big punches but are missing. Stephens still pressing forward, lands a beautiful jab that puts Choi on his back. Choi tried to defend, but Stephens lands a beautiful elbow followed up by beautiful hammer fist to finish of Choi by TKO.
