UFC Charlotte Recap: Sandhagen TKO’s Arnett In The Second Round


UFC on Fox 27: Jacare vs Brunson, kicks off with a bout between two newcomers.  Austin ”Golden Boy”  Arnett (15-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Cory Sandhagen (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). This is the first of 12  fights. UFC Fight Pass early prelims.

Sandhagen is an AXS TV Fights veteran. Prior to today, he was signed with LFA.  Sandhagen comes into this fight with back-to-back via first round KO. His only loss was almost one year ago against Jamall Emmers at LFA 5

Arnett who recently signed with the UFC is a familiar face from Dana White’s Contender Series where he showed great potential but ended up losing to Brandon Davis who got the upset win.

Round 1:

The round starts with both fighters measuring distance and throwing some jabs and right-hand punchings. Sandhagen starts working on Arnett’s body and displays a great offensive arsenal of weapons. He later takes Arnett down and we see Arnett on his back while Sandhagen keeps busy. Sanddhagen keeps trowing great body shots. We see Arnett clipping Sandhagen with a punching combination near the end. The round ends with Arnett pressing Sandhagen to the cage but doesn’t do anything significant with lack of action.  Sandhagen was the busier fighter throughout.

Round 2:

Similar to first round we see both fighters exchanging and measuring distance. Sandhagen starts giving Arnett a lot of problems. We then see a big elbow from Sandhagen causing significant damage to Arnett’s eye. After a few seconds, we see Arnett getting on Sandhagen’s back but without any effect.  Sandhagen successfully gets out of that hook. We then see Sandhagen controlling the fight on the top but both fighters get up. Sandhagen keeps mixing his striking landing some very significant shots. Sandhagen lands a beautiful liver shot and displays great boxing skills. This hurts Arnett significantly. We see both fighters in a clinch position and Sandhagen hits Arnett with great knees and dropping him. Sandhagen keeps on punching Arnett on the floor and the referee warns Arnett and stops the bout. This was a very dominant performance from Sandhagen.
