UFC Belem Recap: Santos Defeats Smith Via TKO

Anthony “Lionheart” Smith 28-12 MMA (4-2 UFC) will meet Thiago “Marreta” Santos 16-5 MMA (8-4 UFC) in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night 125.



Since Smith’s last loss to Cezar Ferreira at the TUF 23 Finale in July 2016, he has three straight KO/TKO stoppages. Smith has twenty-five stoppages in his twenty-eight victories. Santos also has three straight KO/TKO stoppages since his last defeat in 2016 to Eric Spicely at UFC FN 95. Twelve of his sixteen victories come by stoppage.



Round 1:


Smith takes the center to start. Santos lands a kick. They end up on the ground with Smith on top. Santos reverses and is now on top with Smith pressed against the cage. Smith holding on. Santos unloads with some body shots and Smith grabs him again. Santos staying heavy on Smith. Santos landing a few shots here and there. Smith trying to get to his feet and he does. Smith chases after Santos and Santos lands a right that drops Smith. Santos lands a few hots on the ground but Smith makes it back to his feet. Santos goes straight for Smith and pressures him to the ground landing a few more shots. Santos lands a big knee to the body of smith.

Round 2:


Both competitors have a short feeling out to start round two. Santos lands a front kick. Both fighters trade a few shots. Santos lands a body kick that sends Smith to his knees. Santos jumps on Smith landing some big shots. Smith grabs Santos’s leg trying to get him down. Santos continues landing hammer fists to Smith’s head as the ref steps in to stop the bout.
