UFC Belem Recap: Alcantara Stops Soto In 66 Seconds


Two bantamweight contenders look to rebound from losses as Iuri “Marajó” Alcântara (35-9, 1 NC MMA, 10-6, 1 NC UFC) vs Joe “One Bad Mofo” Soto (18-6 MMA, 3-4 UFC) face off in the opening FS2 bout.

Alcantara (35-9, 1 NC MMA, 10-6, 1 NC UFC) is looking to rebound from two back to back losses, firstly in a upset defeat to Brian “Boom” Kelleher (18-8 MMA, 2-1 UFC) via first round submission at UFC 212: Aldo vs Holloway, and secondly to Mexican Native Alejandro “El Diablito” Perez (19-6-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 123: Swanson vs Ortega last December.

Soto (18-6 MMA, 3-4 UFC) had a 3 fight win streak snapped last time out where he got submitted to rising Welsh Contender Brett “The Pikey” Johns (15-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) via a 30 second calf slicer submission at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale back in December. He most recently beat Rani Yahya (24-9, 1 NC MMA, 9-3, 1 NC UFC) via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 106: Belfort vs Gastelum last March.

Round One: 

The round starts with the fighters touching gloves. Alcantara throws a jab and nice left kick. Soto goes for the takedown and Alcantara defends. He catches Soto, badly rocking him. Alcantara swarms Soto; dropping him, and ground and pounds him, forcing the referee to stop the bout.
