UFC 220 Recap: Miocic dominates in decision win over Ngannou

Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou

One of the more anticipated heavyweight champion fights in UFC history is here. Current heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, puts his belt on the line against the predator, Francis Ngannou. They hype around Ngannou is through the roof after what he did to Alistair Overeem at UFC 218. Ngannou scored a knockout that was talked about for days. He put a lot of critics to rest after that fight. Now he comes into this title fight against the veteran Stipe Miocic. Miocic looks to use his experience to humble Ngannou and show why he is one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. Both fighters come into the fight with huge knockout power.

Round 1:

Here we go! Ngannou comes out swinging. He lands a couple punches to the head of Miocic, but Miocic seems unphased. Ngannou is throwing big fists but is not connecting. Ngnnou finally lands an uppercut, but once again doesn’t seem to bother Miocic all that much. Miocic returns the favor and lands two nice punches to the head of Ngannou and quickly scores his first takedown of the fight.  Miocic is controlling the fight from the ground and separates just enough to land punches to the head of Ngannou. Both fighters land a couple overhands before the round end. Ngannou was starting to look fatigue as the round ended. Close round, but Miocic with the big takedown give him the advantage.

Round 2:

Start of round 2 and Ngannou looks visibly winded. He may have to land a knockout punch early if he is going to win this fight. Miocic presses forward and lands some leg kicks to Ngannou. Ngannou is not landing many of his punches. Miocic again landing leg kicks and follows it up with a nice combination. Miocic closes in on Ngannou and lands another takedown. Miocic once against controlling this fight from the ground. He is landing knees on the head and midsection of Ngannou. Miocic is starting to just lean on Ngannou to continually wear him out. Miocic lands a punch here and there to keep position on Ngannou.  The bell rings and its another round won by Miocic.

Round 3:

Moicic comes out right away looking for a takedown. Ngannou looks very tired. Miocic showing his experience and slowing Ngannous down by staying on his back and just pressing his head down. Ngannou has never gone this far in a fight and its showing. Miocic scores another takedown and seems in control.  Both fighters get back on their feet and just as quickly Miocic scores a second takedown in the round. Miocic showing great ground and pound game. He is in total control and tiring Ngannou right out.

Round 4:

Miocic taking full advantage of a tired Ngannou and scores another takedown to start the round. Miocic is showing great ground and pound game. Ngannous is trying to get back on his feet, but is just using more of his energy and is going nowhere. Miocic controls most of the fight on the ground and just keeps landing punch after punch to the head and body of Ngannou.

Round 5:

Miocic again presses forward and gets Nagnnou’s back against the cage.  Both fighters show fatigue and there’s not to much action. Miocic once again just wearing on the back of Ngannou wearing him down. Miocic lands a quick jab to the face of Ngannou.  Miocic seems to just be wasting time as he inches closer to another title defense victory.  Ngannou attempts a flying knee, but its blocked by Miocic. Miocic uses his experience to control this fight from beginning to end. Miocic easily defends his title against Ngannou.
