The last UFC event of 2017 was held on Saturday night in Las Vegas. The card being called UFC 219 was headlined by the UFC women’s featherweight title fight by Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Holly Holm. Opening the evening, we had former Ultimate Fighter winner and flyweight title challenger, Tim Elliott face off against UFC newcomer Mark De La Rosa.
Elliott was supposed to fight two weeks earlier, but after two opponents withdrew, Elliott was added to UFC 219. He agreed to move up in weight to bantamweight to face off against the undefeated De La Rosa. De La Rosa made history tonight by becoming one part of the only active fighters in the UFC to be signed to the UFC while being married. Once he is out, Elliott lands some ground and pound and in a scramble briefly has a amateur wrestling can opener on De La Rosa. De La Rosa rolls out of it, and Elliott peppers him with ground and pound. With about a minute left in the round, Elliott jumps to a guillotine choke. The debuting fighter pops his head out causing a scramble where both fighters reverse each other in top position. The MMA Takeover scored the round 10-9.
The second round began with Elliott immediately jumping to a guillotine choke. He used the deep choke to scramble and put De La Rosa in a crucifix position. He peppers De La Rosa with some shots, and in a scramble he locked in an anaconda choke. De La Rosa tries to pull out of the submission but is forced to tap o
