Ben Rothwell (#6) has been flagged by USADA for a potential violation. The news broke today, stemming from a sample collected on February 6. His matchup with Fabricio Werdum (#2) has been put on hold for the time being. With the news of Eddie Alvarez (LW #4) vs Poirier being added to UFC 211 in Dallas on May 13, it seems a replacement fight may already be in place.
Rothwell was suspended for 9 months in 2013 due to elevated levels of testosterone, but through a statement made to MMAFighting.com, he would like everyone to keep an open mind.
“With the recent news received from USADA, I would like to take this time to let everyone know I have been under the care of a physician and trying to overcome a medical illness.
“I would appreciate the chance to show that I have not cheated nor did I intend to cheat. Please hold your opinions of me until all the facts are out. I appreciate everyone’s support as I go through the process with USADA.”
It has not been announced if Werdum will be offered to remain on the card against another fighter.
