Hey fight fans, Justin Peck here with your recap for Strike Off 9, here in Virginia! We were looking to an exciting night of fights and we were not disappointed! Here is your recap:
Flyweight: Steve Parsons vs Desmond Torres
Rd 1: The action started off with hometown fighter Desmond Torres. In the first round, Torres weathered an early flurry from Parsons but soon took control, being the aggressor in the cage. Parsons took him down and attempted a rear naked choke but Torres fought out and reversed it the position. He landed strong shots to head towards the end of the round.
My score: 10-9 Torres
Rd 2: Torres secured an early takedown and landed strong knees to body. He displayed a dominant ground game. Parsons was rushed immediately anytime he stood up
My score: 20-18 Torres
Rd 3: Parsons came out hot, knowing he’s likely down on the score card. After the initial burst, Torres shut it down with a take down. Parsons tried to secure an armbar twice but failed, Parsons tried armbar of his own but ultimately time ran out.
My Score: 30-27 Torres

Lightweight Bout: Shawn Jefferson vs Alexander Olave
Olave came out strong and this fight didn’t last very long. After a leg kick to the thigh of Jefferson the ref stepped in. Jefferson disputed the stoppage claiming the strike was a low blow. Olave raised Jefferson’s arm before the result was announced.
Result: Olave by TKO (Strikes) 0:37 Rd 1
Dusty Shaw pulled out, Alan Stephenson bout canceled
Bantamweight Bout: James Quigg vs Josh Aguero
Aguero swinging wild after exchange, dropping hands took multiple big knees against the cage, got dropped, pressure from Quigg too much TKO Rd 1 2:00
Result: Quigg by TKO (Strikes) 2:00 Rd 1
Featherweight Bout: Sam Eure vs Anthony Tisdale
Tisdale missed big head kick early, Eure capitalized with a slam. Tisdale managed a nice escape. After a few back and forth exchanges, a knee to body against the cage from Tisdale curled Eure. Eure said something to the ref just before the stoppage but the referee had seen enough
Result: Tisdale by TKO (Strikes) 3:20 Rd 1
Heavyweight Bout: Chris Stanton vs Josh Freeman
Stanton came out the aggressor, pushing Freeman against the cage early. Stanton was able to maintain underhooks and drive strong knees into the legs of Freeman from the clinch. Freeman created separation and landed some shots but Stanton stormed in, dropping Freeman with a right hand to finish the fight before the halfway mark of the round.
Result: Stanton by TKO (Strikes)
Lightweight Bout: John Mosley vs Kyle Staten
Mosley came out strong landing a huge right after a knockdown to Staten. Mosley began landing brutal hammer fists while Staten had his arm. The referee stopped the action, much of the crowd thought TKO but the announcement was of a verbal submission.
Result: Staten by Verbal Submission (Armbar) 1:10 Rd 1
Light Heavyweight Bout: Eric Ellerbee vs Darren Costa
Huge slam from Costa to start the action early. Costa worked into full mount quickly with Ellerbee giving up his back shortly after. Costa rained down lefts and rights before the referee stopped the fight.
Result: Costa by TKO (Strikes) 0:59 Rd 1
Heavyweight Bout: Derrick Brown vs Jeff Blachly
Rd 1: Fighters enter the clinch early with Blachly in control. Brown kept busy pumping shots to the body from against the cage. Brown created space until accidental groin strike. Action back underway, Brown lands spinning back fist and pushed Blachly to the cage to control the clinch. He landed a takedown and unleashed some ground and pound. Blachly able to pull him in and then the same happened again. Blachly weathered the storm.
My Score: 10-9 Brown
Rd 2: Blachly caught an early leg kick from Brown and stormed in to attempt a takedown. He was stuffed by Brown. From the clinch, they were separated by the ref. Shortly after the ref called in the physician to examine Blachly’s left eye. With the eye swollen shut, the fight was called.
Result: Brown by TKO 1:16 Rd 2
Heavyweight Bout: Tony Horn vs Michael Oldson
The two fighters were quickly into the clinch when Oldson landed a right hook that dropped Horn to end the fight quickly.
Result: Oldson by KO (Strikes) 0:29
Catchweight (195) Bout: Elder Ramos vs Michael Cora
Cora came out the aggressor with Ramos unable to find his range counterstriking. After some back and forth, Cora stormed in dropping Ramos with an uppercut. Ramos got to his feet but was dropped again shortly after when the referee stepped in
Result: Cora by TKO 3:41 Rd 1
