Quick Hits 5/25: New Rule, New Signing, & Fight Announcements

Here are some quick hit headlines that you might have missed today in the world of MMA:

  • The New York State Athletic Commission announced a new rule change due to Daniel Cormier’s controversial “towel incident” at the UFC 210 weigh ins. The Commission stated that fighter will not be allowed to touch any person or article except for the scale when weighing in.
  • The UFC has signed kickboxing legend, Gokhan Saki. Saki announced the news on his Twitter today. Saki has fought in MMA once, which was a loss to James Zikic back in 2004.
  • Johnny Case will return after a long layoff when he faces Tony Martin at UFC Fight Night 112 on June 25th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Case is coming off a loss to Jake Mathews, while Martin is on a two-fight winning streak inside the Octagon.
  • UFC newcomer, Jared Gordon, and Michel Quinones will attempt to face each other at UFC Fight Night 112. The two were supposed to fight each other at UFC 211, but Gordon withdrew from the event the day before because of food poisoning.
  • Joachim Christensen will make a quick turnaround after his recent loss to Gadzhimrad Antigulov when he welcomes UFC newcomer Azamat Murzakanov to the organization at UFC Fight Night 112.
  • Belal Muhammad will attempt to win back to back fights when he takes on Jordan Mein at UFC 213 on July 8th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Muhammad enters the contest off a win over Randy Brown, while Mein is on a two-fight¬†losing streak.
  • Former Ultimate Fighter season 3 winner, Kendall Grove will return to action at Bellator 181, when he takes on John Salter. The two will lock horn o July 11th, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Grove enters the contest off a loss to Alexander Shlemenko, while Salter is coming off a win over Claudio Annicchiarreeo.
  • Shane Burgos will attempt to go to 3-0 inside the Octagon when he fights in his hometown of Long Island, New York. Burgos will fight Godofredo Pepey at UFC on Fox 25 on July 22nd. Burgos is undefeated. Pepey enters the fight off of a win over Mike De La Torre
  • The super popular, Sage Northcutt will attempt to live up to the original hype when he takes on Claudio Puelles at UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, California. Northcutt enters the contest off a loss to Mickey Gall, while Puelles is coming off a loss to Martin Bravo.
  • Undefeated Canadian prospect, Gavin Tucker will attempt to go 2-0 inside the Octagon when he faces Rick Glenn at UFC 216 on September 9th in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Tucker impressed when he easily defeated Sam Sicilia. Former WSOF champion, Glenn is coming off a win over Phillipe Nover.
