Q&A with defending atomweight champ Andy “The CrAsian” Nguyen

By: Nick Portella
What’s good fight fans? Today I had the chance to catch up with defending KOTC champion Andy “The CrAsian” Nguyen. Andy was kind enough to reach out and let me speak with her about her recent title defense and her future in 2017. Let’s have a seat with Andy and see what she will be up to moving forward in her career.

Nick: With one title defense in the books this year, how many more times do you plan on fighting in 2017?
Andy: I plan on defending my KOTC title one more time this summer before I fight on Rizin in October.

Nick: You have now met Bi Nguyen twice in your career. You won one and lost one both via decision. Do you plan on having the trilogy fight with Bi with your KOTC title on the line again?
Andy: If Bi wants a trilogy fight that is fine by me. The first time we fought I held back. It was the first time fighting a friend, but not it is all business to me. Our third fight will not last five rounds.

Nick: Since your first meeting with Bi what did you change your game plan to get the win in your second meeting?
Andy: I didn’t change my game plan at all, but I did train more cardio since she trains in a high elevation. I trained myself to take advantage of my reach in this fight. All credit goes to Donny Aaron the CEO of Karate Mafia.

Nick: You currently hold the KOTC and Rizin Atomweight titles. Will you consider a jump in weight class if the right offer presents itself?
Andy: I will be staying at atomweight. I train full time now and walk around at 120 pounds. 115 pounds would be too big for me.

Nick: You are successful as a model, fighter, and role model for woman. What can we expect from you in the second half of 2017?
Andy: I never looked at myself as a role model. I love when children come up to me for my autograph. I want to be the best that I can be. I am also far from being perfect. 2017 is going to be special. I have no idea what is going to happen yet but I will stay ready to go.

Nick: Andy do you have any shout outs you would like put out there?
Andy: Thank you for LubMMA for creating my awesome website. Check it out ay AndyNguyen.org the home of all things Andy “The Crasian” Nguyen. I would also like to thank Nick Portella from TheMMATakeOver.com for having this interview with me.

Nick: Andy have you submitted to the takeover?
Andy: This is andy “The CrAsian” Nguyen and I have submitted to the takeover.
