MMAJunkie is reporting that UFC Hall of Famer, MattHughes is awake and responding in the hospital. Hughes was involved in a car accident on Friday, where his truck was struck on the passenger’s side by a moving train. He was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, where he was treated for severe head trauma.
Hughes long time manager informed MMAJunkie that Hughes is unable to open to open his eyes yet or speak, but has been responding by squeezing hands.
The former UFC welterweight champion was suffered a collapsed lung and was placed in a medically induced coma because of brain bleeding.
Hughes has not fought in MMA since 2011 but has recently talked about a possible comeback.
