UFC 214 in Anaheim California the biggest card of the year, did not disappoint. A bunch of upsets, new champions crowned, and guys/girls making a name for themselves.
The King is back! The first round Jon Jones came out super aggressive and took it to DC. DC started getting his timing and rhythm down towards the end but first round was Jones round. The second round Jones was picking and choosing his shots while DC was getting confident and starting to land some shots. The second round was much closer than the first. In the third round, it started out same Jones being very cerebral with DC chasing him down till a head kick changed the whole fight. Jones landed a perfectly timed head kick that stunned DC and did not let him off the hook finishing him up with nasty ground and pound.
Jon Jones def. Daniel Cormier via KO, round 3 (3:01)
Not much to say about the welter weight championship fight. Damien Mai shot 24 takedowns and secured zero of them. Woodley showed impressive take down defense and landed enough shots to secure a unanimous decision.
Tyron Woodley def. Damien Maia via unanimous decision.
We have a new Womens Feather Weight Champion and that is none other than Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino. Tonya Evinger earned some respect as nobody wanted to fight Cyborg but she stepped up and was game but from the very beginning she was just out classed. Cyborg was very patient and picked her apart in rounds 1 and 2 before landing some vicious knees in the third round to finish it off.
Cristiane Justino def. Tonya Evinger TKO, round 3 (1:56)
Robbie Lawler vs Donald Cerrone had fight of the night written all over it when announced and it did not disappoint. Lawler came out in the first-round hot and started super-fast tagging Cerrone right of the bat. In the second round Cerrone woke up and took over completely dominating that round with a wide variety of strikes. In the third round, it was so close back and forth, and honestly it could of went either way but it ended up going in Lawlers favor.
Robbie Lawler def. Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision
