Kevin Lee, coming off his controversial submission win over rival Michael Chiesa, said he’s been asked to coach The Ultimate Fighter. He stated Eddie Alvarez turned it down and now he’s waiting on “holdup” Justin Gaethje. Gaethje, long-time WSOF Lightweight champ, made an impressive UFC debut with a TKO win over Michael Johnson at the TUF 25 finale. Ariel Helwani had reported earlier in the day that the UFC was targeting Gaethje and Alvarez for later in the year and them coaching TUF 26.
It’s possible that Alvarez wasn’t interested in the coaching gig or he has his sights set on a Poirier rematch. Time will tell. In the meantime, it’s interesting to think about a possible matchup between Lee and Gaethje. The fight, if it were to happen, would derail the hype train and possibly eliminate one of the fighters from title contention and set the other up nicely to make a run at the belt.
