UFC Newcomer Justin Gaaethje and ex-UFC Lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez are set to coach TUF 26. Dana White has confirmed the news.
Gaethje is coming off a TKO win in his UFC debut over Michael Johnson in what many feel is the Fight of the Year. Alvarez is coming off a no-contest against Dustin Poirier that ended when Alvarez landed several illegal knees in the second round. The knees were deemed accidental by referee Herb Dean.
This announcement may come as a surprise to some and specifically to Dustin Poirier and Kevin Lee. Poirier had been campaigning for a rematch with Alvarez and Lee stated a couple of days ago that he was offered a coaching gig opposite Gaethje after Alvarez turned it down. Perhaps Lee and Poirier should face off since both guys are on the outside looking in.
TUF 26 will feature 125-pound female flyweights, which is a new weight class in the UFC. The shows winner will be the inaugural champion.
