Looks like there is trouble ahead of the UFC 215 fight card. Demetrious Johnson was lined up to break Anderson Silva’s UFC title defense record, but that is not going to happen. Ariel Helwani is reporting that Johnson’s schedule opponent, Ray Borg had to withdraw from the event due to illness. Amanda Nunes defending her title against Valentina Shevchenko will now headline the card in Edmonton, Alberta.
Borg, who has been battling illness leading up to this historic fight was forced to withdraw after it was concluded that he was not fit to fight. The illness was reported to not be related to weight cutting. The UFC is looking to book the fight again, but nothing has been confirmed as to when.
Hours before UFC 213 Amanda Nunes pulled out of her fight with Shevchenko. UFC President Dana White stated, “Nunes would not be headlining in her next fight.” It appears that she will, in fact, be at the top of the card once again. UFC 215 will now have 11 fights on the card.
The main card bout of Junior dos Santos vs Francis Ngannou was cancelled last month due to dos Santos failing a USADA test.
UFC 215 will be taking place on September 9, 2017, in Edmonton, Alberta.
