Former UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre was a guest on the MMA Hour on Monday and made headlines. St. Pierre, who is scheduled to fight Michael Bisping for the middleweight title informed host Ariel Helwani that he is contractually obligated to defend the title if he defeats Bisping.
“I have to defend my title. It’s written in my contract”, St. Pierre said, ” have to defend my title if I win”.
St. Pierre stepped away from the sport four years ago after defeating Johny Hendricks in a controversial win to retain St. Pierre’s welterweight title. The 36-year-old fighter informed Helwani that he would like to fight until he is 39 years old but will likely retire if he loses a fight.
St. Pierre stated that if he beats Bisping he expects to fight UFC middleweight interim champion, Robert Whittaker next.
St. Pierre will challenge Bisping in the main event of UFC 217 on November 4th in New York City, New York.
