Gabrielle “Gabi” Garcia 4-0-0-1 has missed weight for her bout vs 53-year-old Shinobu Kandori 4-1 MMA for their RIZIN Fighting World Grand Prix 2017: 2nd Round.
Not only did she miss weight but by a huge amount for the already lopsided affair. Her weight for the 95 kg (209 lbs.) bout was marked at 107.7 kg (236.94 lbs.). Kandori came in well under the limit at 73.75 kg (162.25 lbs.). Making an almost 75 lb. weight difference vs her 53 yr. old opponent. By actual fight time how much more could the massive Garcia gain?
Garcia, coming off her no contest due to an eye poke of Oksana Gagloeva 0-0-1 MMA in the July RIZIN event, is undefeated with four stoppages, three coming in the first round, all under the RIZIN banner.
Kandori enters this event with four first round wins by way of submission. It’s worth noting though that her last bout/win was in November of 2000 at LLPW vs. Yumiko Hotta. Kandori has only suffered one loss, to Svetlan Gounarenka, which she later avenged.
Garcia has a history of odd type bouts. Maybe due in part to her promotion or maybe the scarcity of a valid opponent. Garcia has recently stated that she doesn’t like the fact that she is being put up against some of her opponents as if she had no control.
