Freddie Roach Wants GSP To Drop Back Down In Weight

Thinks Added Weight May Have Tired GSP

Long Time Boxing Coach Freddie Roach Is Interested In A Lower Weight Class For Now Middleweight Champ GSP

After a 4 year layoff and moving up a weight class to unknown territory, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre 26-2 MMA (20-2 UFC) extended his win streak to 13 at UFC 217. By doing so he captured a 2nd weight class title to become only the 4th UFC fighter to achieve this.

St-Pierre defeated¬† champ Michael “The Count” Bisping 30-8 MMA (20-8 UFC) by 3rd round Rear Naked Choke to capture the Middleweight strap.

Roach had this to say about St-Pierre’s future:

“He was maybe getting a little bit tired. I think moving up a weight division, I am not sure that’s his best weight division or if we will fight there again, but we will see where it goes.

I think it was the weight that got to him. He’s not used to carrying that much weight and he fatigued a little quicker than usual. Again, we will work it all out and get together with the whole team and discuss what the next best move is for Georges.”

Dana White stated he wants St-Pierre to unify the title against Interim Champ Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker 19-4 MMA (12-2 UFC). However we all know how often White sticks to his original plans. I for one would like to see the title unification bout. What are your thoughts?
