The UFC was flying high on the historic UFC 217 night, but suddenly someone has rained on their parade. Combate is reporting that Frankie Edgar has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled UFC 218 main event fight against Max Holloway.
The reports are is Edgar has suffered some type of facial injury and will require surgery. The injury has forced the former UFC lightweight champion to pull out of his featherweight title shot against Holloway.
Edgar was riding high heading into the fight. He has won 7 out of his last 8 fights including back to back wins over Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez.
Holloway is currently on an 11-fight winning streak and won the featherweight crown from Jose Aldo in his last fight.
The UFC is reportedly looking for a replacement for Edgar to face Holloway on short notice.
UFC 218 is scheduled for December 2nd in Detroit, Michigan.
