A stacked UFC 218 just got even more stacked! Mark Henry, the head coach of Eddie Alvarez announced on Instagram that Alvarez will fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 218.
Alvarez won the UFC lightweight championship back in July of 2016 when he knocked out Rafael dos Anjos. He would lose his title to Conor McGregor at UFC 205. His last fight ended in a No-Contest. The fight was stopped after Alvarez landed a series of illegal knees to the head of a grounded Dustin Poirier.
Gaethje, who is undefeated is a former WSOF champion. He made his UFC debut on the Ultimate Fighter season 25 finale. He knocked out Michael Johnson in a fight of the year candidate,
Alvarez and Gaethje have been coaching opposite of each other on the 26th season of the Ultimate Fighter show.
UFC 218 is scheduled for December 2nd in Detroit, Michigan. The event will be headlined by the UFC featherweight title bout between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.
