Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone’s plans of moving back to lightweight from the welterweight division looks to be put on hold. MMAFighting is reporting that Cerrone will return to the octagon to face Yancy Medeiros in a welterweight contest at UFC Fight Night 126. The fight has been announced as the main event.
Background on Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros
Cerrone will be making his 27th appearance in the UFC. He currently has a 19-7 record with the UFC, but his currently on a three-fight losing streak. He was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till, and lost a decision to Robbie Lawler between fights with Masvidal and Till. If Cerrone beats Medeiros, he will tie Georges St. Pierre and Michael Bisping for most wins in UFC history.
Unlike Cerrone, Medeiros has been read hot. He had also moved to the welterweight division from lightweight and since the move is 3-0. The StrikeForce veteran holds a 6-4 record with 1 No-Contest in the UFC. The Hawaiin fighter has beaten Sean Spencer, Erick Silva, and Alex Oliveira in consecutive fights. He beat Oliveira at UFC 218 in a 2017 fight of the year candidate.
UFC Fight Night 126 is scheduled for February 18th in Austin, Texas.
