Bethe Correia vs Irena Aldana fight is canceled due to Correia’s injury. Correia has been hospitalized due to an injured eye.
The injury happened during training camp and is severe enough to cancel the woman’s bantamweight fight (135lbs). Correia underwent emergency eye surgery and will be out for some time. She promises Aldana as soon as she is healed and ready to fight. Both fighters are in a so-called “rough patch” in their respective careers. Correia has won one fight in the last 5 fights and it came two years ago via split decision of Leslie Smith. Aldana has yet to gather a win in her career, she is a high prospect from Invicta FC. She lost last December to Leslie Smith which was Correia’s last win.
Correia posted on Instagram following statement: “In the first place I want to thank @irene.aldana for agreeing to fight with me in January. I was very excited to go to war with a Mexican woman. Unfortunately, I had an accident, had to go through an emergency surgery and my return to the most famous octagon in the world will take few more months. I was so excited to show to the world my evolution and what I learned with my experiences in Thailand and in Texas, anyway … I’ll meet you in the first semester of 2018. Injuries are a part of a fighter’s life and it prepares us for tough battles and for the overcoming of adversity, making us psychologically stronger. I want to thank Dr. Remo Turchetti for the success of the treatment, making me fit and prepared for the next @ufc battles.”
The two were scheduled to fight each other at an unanswered UFC events in January.
