According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor (#1) received a boxing license today, from the California State Athletic Commission. McGregor, who was stripped of his UFC featherweight title this week, has spoke several times about a mega boxing match against undefeated boxing great, Floyd Mayweather Jr (49-0).
The report of McGregor receiving his boxing license has instantly got people talking about a potential matchup between the Irishman and Mayweather. However, it is still very unlikely that any boxing commission would allow Mayweather with his 49-0 boxing record to face off with McGregor, who doesn’t have a professional boxing fight.
McGregor, Mayweather, and the UFC has yet to make an official statement about the news.
