UFC light weight champion, Conor McGregor, who has been rumored to be close to crossing over to the boxing world and fighting boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr, was in attendance of a boxing match on Friday Night and as always put on a show.
McGregor, who was there to show support to fellow countryman, Michael Conlan, walked over to press row and began to yell at ESPN head boxing analyst, Dan Rafael. He got close to Rafael’s face and began an epic rant.
McGregor asked Rafael if he was the boxing man, which Rafael stated he was. McGregor followed up Rafael’s response by yelling
“I’m the boxing guy. Watch me take over boxing, trust me on that. No on in this boxing game knows what’s coming. Trust me on that. I’m going to step in there and shock the whole goddamn world…” He followed up by screaming, “trust me on that. Look me in the eyes, 28 years of age, confident as fuck, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words. It’s getting close. Don’t worry about it. You’ll hear about it. I’m out of here”.
McGregor closed out the rant by yelling, “I am boxing” as he walked away with cameras flashing around him.
ESPN opened the 11PM EST SportsCenter with the story and Rafael commenting on it. ESPN had video of the confrontation but there was no audio with it. Rafael stated that he believed McGregor was upset with him because he said “McGregor would absolute stand zero chance against Mayweather Jr in a boxing match”.
The UFC and Floyd Mayeather Jr has yet to comment on the altercation.
