Carlos “The Cannon” Candelario Talks Career and Tuesday Night Contenders
By: Nick Portella
What’s good fight fans? Today I had the chance to talk with undefeated pro-MMA fighter Carlos “The Cannon” Candelario. Carlos is 6-0 as a professional fighter and 11-0 total with 10 finishes. I recently interviewed Carlos and he had reached out to me because he had some big news he wanted to share through our site. When we first spoke I had predicted that something like this would happen and the day is here. Let’s talk with Carlos and see what’s been happening.
Nick: The UFC is constantly adding new and improved ways to give fighters a chance to make into the promotion. How much do you think this will help the new generation fighters get a chance at the big show?
Carlos: It definitely helps us a lot because all I need is one chance to show Dana White I belong there. I never have a boring fight and I’m a finisher and he’s always saying that’s what he’s looking for in fighters. I was born to be under the bright lights
Nick: How excited are you to be on Tuesday Night Contenders?
Carlos: I can’t sleep at night. It’s all I think about every minute of the day. I can’t wait to show my skills.
Nick: What date did you get the call? Was it hard keeping it a secret until the right time?
Carlos: I got the call a couple days before my birthdays so it was a perfect birthday present. I couldn’t believe it. It was so hard especially to keep it from my family. When my birthday came my family did a little party for me and that’s when I told them. We all cried together!
Nick: What date will you be fighting?
Carlos: I will be fighting August 1st.
Nick: Who will your opponent be?
Carlos: His name is Ronaldo Candido.
Nick: How much do you know about your opponent?
Carlos: I know he is a Jiu Jitsu guy who likes to look for a submission. Other than that not too much. I like to worry about myself and the camp.
Nick: Do you have a prediction for your fight?
Carlos: Definitely a finish. I could see him getting tired and that’s when I will attack and put my hands on him. I will finish him.
Nick: Without giving away to much information do you think a win should secure you a contract in the UFC in your mind?
Carlos: There’s no guarantee, but after Dana sees me fight I can’t see how he won’t give me a contract!
Nick: I know there was a point in time where you considered not fighting. Did this opportunity change your mind seeing that you have been noticed by the number one promotion?
Carlos: Yes just a year ago I felt I never was getting noticed and it was hurting me. When I got this call it made my vision clear again. It lit the fire back in me to achieve my dream.
Nick: How has your training camp changed leading up to this fight?
Carlos: Nothing really changes. I’m a true mix martial artist. I studied everything about this game. I try to be dangerous everywhere. The only thing different is I have been wrestling a little more.
Nick: Carlos have you submitted to the takeover?
Carlos: this is Carlos “The Cannon” Candelario and I have submitted to the takeover.
Carlos would like to thank his family first. They’re the ones who always told me I’m better than everyone and can see me make it, especially when I had my doubts. They also paid for my training when I couldn’t afford it. Big thanks to my team Underdog MMA, NB kickboxing, Hartford Boxing Center, Jiu Jitsu and Strength Academy, and all my teammates and coaches that’s been helping since day one. Without them, I wouldn’t be growing. Thanks to CES MMA for creating this hype around me. Big shout out to my manager Tyson Chartier and Iridium Management for getting me this fight.
It was great speaking with Carlos again. I am happy that he reached out to me with his news. He is definitely one to watch out for so tune in on August 1. Signing off for TheMMATakeOver.com this is Nick Portella. @NickPortellaMMA
