On Friday Night, Bellator continued its European tour by having Bellator 177 in Budapest, Hungary. The card was headlined by bantamweight champion, Eduardo Dantas facing Bellator newcomer Leandro Higo in a non-title fight.
Dantas and Higo squared off in a slow paced fight. Most of the match was a feeling out process. Dantas was able to keep Higo at his range establishing his jab backed by leg kicks. Higo attempted to get inside the pocket for most of the fight, but was unable to land many significant shots when in the desired range. Dantas wins a narrow split decision victory. The MMA Takeover scored the fight 30-27 Dantas.
In the closest fight of the night, Daniel Weichel was able to beat John Texeira by split decision. Weichel was dropped early in the fight by Texeira, but was able to recover and narrowly beat Texeira. Both fighters landed shots on the feet in the second round, but it was Texeira that was the aggressor. In the third round, Weichel started to get comfortable and took control of the round. The MMA Takeover scored the fight 29-28 for Texeira.
Lena Ovchynnikova and Helen Harper squared off in the women’s flyweight division matchup. The Ukrainian fighter, Ovchynnikova was able to escape several near submissions from the former Ultimate Fighter contestant Harper. Ovchynnikova was able to land a lot of strikes from on her feet in the second round causing Harper to not be able to get off her stool in between the 2nd and 3rd round, giving Ovchynnikova the victory.
Hungary’s own, Adam Borics opened up the main card on Spike when he faced off against the outspoken Anthony Taylor. Borics excited the hometown crowd by making quick work of Taylor. He walked down Taylor landing several leg kicks and left hooks, until in a scramble he was able to take Taylor’s back and sink in a rear naked choke causing Taylor to tap out.
