Bellator light heavyweight champion, Liam McGeary returned to action against top challenger Phil Davis in a much anticipated matchup on friday night at Mohegan Sun arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Davis dominated the previously undefeated McGeary, blanking him on all three judges score card (50-43, 50-44, and 50-45).
Davis was able to mix up several takedowns, ground strikes, and submission attempts on McGeary, who wasn’t able to respond with much offense himself.
The win crowned Davis the new Bellator light heavyweight champion, while ending McGeary perfect MMA record.
In other televised action, Connecticut’s own, Brennan Ward got back in the win column with an fast exciting knockout over Saad Awad in the first round of the contest. Ward was able to back Awad up against the fence, where he battered Awad with uppercuts, and hooks, before finishing Awad with a huge left hand.
Neiman Gracie lived up to his last name, with a first round armbar submission win over Rudy Bears.
In the biggest upset of the night, Javy Ayala pulled off the stunning knockout of Sergei Kharitnov in 16 seconds. Ayala landed a big overhand right that put the former Pride and Strikeforce star out cold.
Lastly, in undercard fights that would later get aired on the Spike TV, both Ed Ruth and Tyrell Fortune, who are top wrestler with a lot of hype, was able to win their debuts in MMA. Both fighters were able to finish their opponents with first round TKOs.
