UFC 205 has received more bad news today, as both Thiago Alves and Kelvin Gastelum was unable to make weight at today’s weigh -ins for their schedule fights.
Alves, a long time welterweight, was attempting to move down to lightweight for the first time, to take on Jim Miller. Alves weighed in at 162.6 pounds, well above the maximum weigh of 156 pounds. Even though Alves missed weight, he will still face Miller tomorrow at a 163 catch weight. Alves will be forced to forfeit 20% of his fight purse to Miller and must not weigh any more than 173 pounds on fight day.
Gastelum, who was scheduled to face Donald Cerrone as part of the main card, didn’t even attempt to weigh-in. Gastelum informed the New York State Athletic Commission, that he would not be able to make the 171 pound maximum allowance. By rules, the Athletic Commission was forced to completely cancel the fight.
This is now the third time Gastelum has missed weight for a scheduled UFC event.
